I heaved a sigh of excitement as i dropped the phone reciever. I rolled to the other side of my bed, and images, imaginations and memories of the long weekend conjure in my mind. I have
purposely visited London because of the Nigeria Music Awards and i did enjoy myself to some certain extent. Its been long i visited London that i have lost track of most of the underground
direction licks. Armed with my Zone 1&2 ticket as well as a London tube map, i walked briskly to find my way into the underground tube station at victoria.I had arrived earlier on a megabus coach, and i could feel the pains of the weight of my bag, on my shoulders. I got on the circle line to Westminster and switch on to a jubilee line that took me to North Greenwich, i was to pass the night at Kays’place and i was so excited about it. I have’nt seen him in about 6months.
” Can i have a single ticket please”, i seemingly whispered in a fake British accent to the Arriva Bus 422 driver as he look at me beaming with a grin.I carefully sat down by the window as i watched the sky horizon with the beautiful city of London. I could tell from my mind that i am definitely missing something about London since my demise one and half years ago. I had moved out due to pressures associated with city life. I simply can’t cope alone with the hurstling and bustling of London. The thoughts of justification flooded my mind so much that i did’nt realise how far we’ve gone. I slammed the bell and the driver applied the brakes abruptly. We were in charlton village. I alighted the bus as i go round the corner unto the staircase in a 4 storey house.”Kay” came to the door and we exchange pleasantries. Fortunately, Fola was there. He is a very good friend of kay, He came in from cardiff for the weekend and it was a full house. We went down memory Lane as we discuss NGO stuffs, Life in London, Nigeria and politics, and what more?……….Girls, girls and girls. I was the youngest one anyway, and all attention was shifted on me. I sincerely have’nt been a player, even for once. But my intelligence and self esteem seems to give me off.We chatted and chatted into the whims of the nite. The Tv was on and i remembered checking my Emails and also google analytics top see how much traffic i got on NB in a whole day. I just could’nt say exactly what time i slept, i guess it must have been about 3.am in the morning. For the last time i checked the time, was 2.am

I just couldnt help but imagine the arrogance of Gordon Brown and his rantings that every immigrant in the UK should be forced to learn proper English language as well as British values. It seems there is no more licks for him to rant on and now to impress the British public, he has come up with the idea of every migrant learning the so called English language. While i understand that English language is a lingua franca accepted by most countries, i wonder why Gordon would say that everybody(immigrant) must be forced to learn it as well as the British values. I guess he is not satisfied with the publicity that the language has already.

Maybe he is not thinking well, United Kingdom consist of wales, Northern Ireland, scotland and England. I wonder how many English are been forced to learn welsh and the welsh values as well as Irish language and values, are they not British languages and customs?, or would he say we should leanr the irish and scottish cultures? What about British migrant leaving in other European countries, or british should comes to Nigeria and lives there for donkey years, i wonder how they’ll all feel if they are forced to learn the 3 main Nigerian Languages.
I remembered the first time i came on an exchange program organised by VSO and LifeVanguards Nigeria and we stayed in Barnstaple England for three months as well as Lafia Nassarawa Nigeria for another three months which is a second phase of the programme. While we were in the UK, we accustomed ourselves with the British values and way of life, and abide by them so as not to offend anyone. In all it was all fun for the first phase of the program. Trouble started when the second phase in Lafia Nassarawa took off in may 2002, none but one of the British participants are willing to learn the culture and norms in Nassarawa state. I happened to be from the South West and do not know the customs as well, but i did adapt and learn the customs and other relative morals. Now, i know so many people will assume i was able to learn and respect it because i am a Nigerian, but i know that i may choose not to. The whole aim of the VSO/LIVA program was not achieved until we all had a fight on everyone respecting other cultural values.Everything boils down to the fact that they wanted us (10 Nigerian volunteers) to learn and respect the English way of life (of course we could speak the language), but they won’t want to respect the way of life in Nasarawa.Did anyone ask me how they disrespect it?…………by calling the language crap, the culture is weird and they cant adapt to it. I mean, am i the only one who think the British culture is weird, in which young ones don’t respect their elders?, in which young ones call their elder by names?.While i will still appreciate the fact that Britain is the most accomodating ground for migrants, i still think that government should’nt force any migrant to learn the language as well as the culture. As long as we dont violate the laws of the land, then things should go on the normal way. People that needs to be forced to learn the language and culture are those who are applying for citizenship in the United Kingdom.
Well, if the Uk government insist on every immigrant learning the language and values by force, then i will suggest that all british citizens living abroad should first of all lead by example by learning, respecting and doing things in the cultural way of the land where they live in.
Guy Goma was the wrong guy who was televised live on BBC TV some few months ago. Guy who was waiting to be interviewed for a position as a “data support cleanser” in the stations IT department was mistaken to be Guy kewney (a british internet music expert). He was whisked into the studio live on air and asked questions that doesnt relate to what he came for. what seems to amuse me was the fact that apart from the occasional horrorful face, he seem to compose himself properly and answered the questions to the best of his knowledge without creating a drama scene, and that is a good African spirit.
I wonder if it were to be a white/british man, he will say specifically on TV that he does not know what the interviewer is talking about!. Unfortunately, Guy Goma was not offered the job he came on an interview for, and he has since appeared on so many live TV shows on BBC1 (again) as well as channel 4.Friends and admirers of “the wrong guy” are determined to get him the BBC job that they set up a fan website for him. Are you a Guy Goma fan?……………would you want to know more about the story?……………visit:
It seems the US is eyeing Nigeria’s oil field. And no matter what their so called Admiral Harry Ulrich ( the US commander of US Naval forces in Europe and Africa) says, i wont bulge on my conclusions. It seems the US is not satisfied with their taste of Iraq oil and they would like to have a taste of ours again. I mean, what business of theirs is it to conduct security on our own land. does any African superpower dares invade the US oil in the name of security?…………….Nigeria, think.think man……………….. you can read the news on Nigerian Guardian Newspaper online.
