And I delayed the review a bit. I did take my time watching the video collections for “Expressions”. While I am very impressed, I am at the same time disappointed.
The first on the list was “Drive me Crazy”. Definitely, 2shot and Big lo did their bit to satisfaction, popularly spitting their lines accordingly.
The following scene showcased Shifi, driving a BMW series car behind a London Infrastructural background (is that NewYork?), and another lady in another vehicle behind a traffic light. The drama that ensured was good enough, at least the girl did her bit better than the one in “Olufunmi”, who acted as if she was a Robot. I sincerely hated that bit in the “Olufunmi” Video where she held a phone to her ears and said “And I am not coming back”. I always feel like throwing up.
Back to business, the trio did sand the chorus of “Drive me crazy” behind a shelf of different wines and assorted drinks. That alone makes me wonder if they are trying to portray a more daring styl-plus who are drunkards…..lol.
If I hated shifi for so many things, I won’t but appreciate his good grooming in that video. He sure did impressed e with his combination of a black and white hem light suit.
“Last night shifi called me and she told me she was dating a lovely girl” was the beginning of Zeal’s line. He is the better of the three in terms of bridging songs and also portraying an impressive action. Need I say that he looks more handsome (don’t call me gay, coz am not) without the dreadlock than with it. Also, can someone please tell him for me that he looks more like an okada man with his one hand black gloves?
“I met shifi chilling at the Dorm, with the girl she just started dating”……Tunde Soloed, as he sing-walked behind a filmographic background. I am thinking that he is looking more like R.Kelly in his eye shades. I personally prefer his personality in that video than the other two. Overall, the video is good enough and got an 85% mark from me. At least, the babe in that video that drove the three of them crazy is prettier than models used in their previous video (My opinion anyway).
“Imagine that” followed. More emphasis was laid on the energy of the song than the story behind it. I sincerely already imagined what the video will look like in my head prior to the release of the video. While I was expecting a drama that’ll follow the storyline, styl-plus disappointed my illusions and went a step further by proving that “imagine that” is really a hit track. I sincerely loved the club scene, and the various sections depicting various people saying the slang “Imagine that” is enough to drive me crazy.
Tunde started the solo with his popular verse, and I must say a very big kudos’ to Astromedia for that Background used when Tunde was doing his thing. It was a marvellously good one. I couldn’t have imagined a better scene.
Should I say that Shifi is obsessed with white and black…He did use nearly the same costume in “Imagine that”. I also have a feeling that he’s watched SoulE “Baba dey here” over and over again, as he tends to do his verse in a SoulE Styled feat.
Zeal came in with his bridge, and there is no doubt that his face was digitally enhanced to make the scene look good. I wonder why his was enhanced , but I guess AstroMedia who did the video had a good idea behind it. His costume as well, is quite different and upped more than the other two. Did anyone also notice as well that the “Olufunmi” girl featured in the video.
I was totally disappointed with “Iya Basira Video”. I have a feeling that Styl-plus only wanted to create a digital video revolution by using a created background. They would have created a better impression if they’ve used a proper iya Basira styled Restaurant. It would have been a better video. Apart from this, I love the hilarious production. The concept behind it as well as the casting of Big Mouth as the policeman is a positivity and a plus. If ever I am to thank T-Jazz for anything, it’s the way the video was directed. He sure did a good job. With Fenwa Akinsami ( Tunde’s Sibling) featuring as Saturday in the video, and the appearance of princess Seya, The video is a comedic packed one. I sure believe you’ll enjoy it more if you are particularly ok with the background. For me, I can’t bear it as it make’s me cringe.
The video of “Home within your heart” brought out the sweetness in the gospel piece. Tunde is such a marvellous singer and you’d think that he wrote and composed the song (I’d be gutted if not). I like the studio styled instrumental arrangement as well as the slow delivery of the tempo of the video.
Shifi did not fail again in singing with his nose and this is so obvious in the video as well, but I sincerely loved his seriousness and the emotion he portrayed.
Zeal bridged again, and at the same time seriously and passionately singing into the Mic. For those of you who know him, can you please tell him to remove his ring as he keeps on flashing it? As I am aware, I know none of them is married yet, so why using a ring. Is it not true that only ladies use engagement rings?………Lol.
I also think that they should have used a different person instead of featuring Joey in the video. Did I forget that he did the interview as well, so why use him again, when they could have projected another hopeful into limelight.
Ok….Seriously speaking, I am totally in love with that video than any other video on the album and it seriously ministered to me in a more powerful way than “Run away”.
“Imagine that” Remix is so appealing that I for once have a second thought on it that it is a better one that the original version. The video was bam and I love the idea of leaving the club and creating an improvised club in a subway in the middle of nowhere. I just felt that Tunde and Shifi should have danced more to it than feel too serious with singing their verse. Only Zeal impressed me with his dance steps, and Tunde + Shifi failed to impress.
Even during bridging of his verse, he looked more active and disciplined enough to carry the energy o the video along.
All in all, “Expressions” Volume 1 is a very bigger project and overall, I give Styl-plus 95% productivity. I must give it up to them for their genuinety and constituency in making sure that the brand name “Styl-plus” remains a household name.
My favourite track “Always on my Mind” is yet to come out in video and that adds to my disappointment, also as well is “Mase”, but I still have a sure hope that the videos will still come out.
I specifically put them in high regards for their innovation and talent in becoming role models and creating an avenue for young hopefuls to pursue what they believe in by trying to do things on their own even with limited resources.
The whole Styl-plus crew needs to be praised; this includes all the Directors, producers, editors, animation creators, marketers, and others. They sure did a very very impressive good job.
I still love Styl-plus (As the best R n B group in Nigeria) and I will sure continue to be one of the greatest Fans.
